She was no victim
She was no longer a survivor
She was a champion
She refused to give up, like all champions before her
She danced a mean fox trot, steady on her feet
She knew how to take a hit and still keep on walking
She knew that every hit she took, was just a step closer
She used each hit, as a part of her training, as a step to get stronger, wiser
She knew how to play the game with integrity and tenacity
She learnt to play with dignity, her head held high
She may not stand out from the crowd, but the crowd watched anyway
She may not have been loud, but she was someone to be heard
She understood where she came from, she embraced it
She didn’t look back the way other people did
She looked back to feel her power, her strength
She learnt it was up to her and her alone
She finally knew her worth
She knew she wasn’t going to let the bastards win
She knew she was born to be a champion
